Welcome to the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio, where we come together in community for a liberal religious search for truth, meaning, and relationship, drawing wisdom from many sources including our own religious intuition.

In our heritage, we include Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Thomas Jefferson, Susan B. Anthony, Charles Darwin, as well as Tim Berners-Lee, the designer of the worldwide web.

For weddings, including interfaith marriages, and sacred unions, many people are looking for a service which is spiritual but not “too religious,” that is, not bound to traditional church doctrine. Our minister can work with you as a couple to plan a service that will be meaningful to you.

Fees apply to non-members only. For members, fees are half those listed for the space. For both members and non-members one or two pre-marital counseling sessions and a wedding planning session (at no extra cost) are suggested. Of course, you are also welcome to use our facilities with a minister of your choice.

Our sanctuary...

Designed by Dan Wigodsky, our sanctuary was dedicated in January of 1998 and was awarded a citation for architectural excellence by the San Antonio Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Its atmosphere of startling simplicity and calm dignity with no sectarian symbolism is admired by people of all faiths.

There is a large room with connecting restroom for dressing and wedding preparations. A carpet is available for the center aisle. A “Wiggle Room” with glass window and piped in sound allows parents of small children to entertain them without missing the service. An excellent sound system includes hand and lavalier microphones as well as hearing assistance devices. Our state-of-the-art Allen organ fills the space with beautiful sound.

• Fellowship Hall for smaller wedding, Seats 160
• Fellowship Hall with Kitchen and Library for receptions Tables (seating 8 each) are available for the reception area.
• Organist — We require that you use our nationally known organist and composer, William James Ross.
• Or, you are free to provide your own musicians or music, including use of our piano and sound system.
• Includes planning meetings, up to 2 pre-marital counseling sessions (optional) and rehearsal.
• You are also welcome to use a minister of your choice
• If you expect 100 or more guests, we request that you hire a security guard, 2 guards if over 200, etc. An off-duty Balcones Heights police officer is a good choice. Call (210)735-6244.
