Playground Monitoring During the Service
(Parent & Child Info)
Transition From Sanctuary to Playground:
- Parents/guardians should sign-in their child(ren) in the foyer for playground
access before they enter the sanctuary for service.
- During the “Words for all Ages,” the four monitors will
gather in the foyer.
- When the children and youth are dismissed, three monitors will gather all
the children and youth outside to quietly and gently escort them to the playground.
The fourth monitor will go ahead to ensure the playground is secure. Parents
are welcome to accompany their child(ren), but it is not necessary.
- The gate-keeper monitor will first call out the names of the children whose
parents signed them in.
Playground Rules:
- All children and volunteers will be respectful, in words and actions, of
others, self, environment and building.
- No form of aggression will be tolerated.
- For the safety of the children, there will be no climbing of the trees,
fence and playhouse.
- Take turns going down the slide. Going up the slide will not be allowed
for fear of being plowed into by someone going down.
- Children can only exit through the wooden gate where the gatekeeper will
be.
- An elementary school age child may only leave the playground with a parent/guardian.
- Older children (6th grade and up) may leave the playground if they have
prior parental permission to do so. They must notify the gatekeeper
when they are entering and leaving. They are limited to the patio,
library and playground.
- Everyone on the playground (regardless of age) will be expected to follow
the playground rules.
Discipline Guidelines:
Consequence of misbehavior that do not cause physical harm:
1st offense--one warning
2nd offense--lost of privileges with reflection time (number of minutes = age)
3rd offense--reflection time* and report to parent or guardian
*Before leaving reflection time the child must convey the bad choice that was
made and express a better choice. If needed, an apology will be expected.
Blatant offences of aggression that cause physical harm (fighting, kicking,
pinching, throwing objects in a dangerous manner…) will result in immediate
removal from the playground. After a second blatant offence, the child
loses all playground privileges for the next two weeks.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our children safe.
