Project QUEST is a nationally recognized workforce development strategy that has trained over 1300 people for jobs with a salary of at least $20,000, benefits, and a career path.
Provide funding to ensure all qualified applicants have access to Project QUEST.
Education Partnership:
The Education Partnership commits college scholarships to students of 15 high schools who graduate with a B average and a 95% attendance rate, and provides college advisor services to students at those schools.
Expand the program to all public high schools in San Antonio.
After School Challenge:
After school programs developed by COPS and Metro Alliance organizing efforts have reached close to 200 schools, providing adult-supervised activities between the hours of 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. After School Challenge program provide a 15 to 1 student-teacher ratio at Alliance Schools.
Expand After School Challenge program to all schools.
Improve the overall quality of education in our school districts through the Alliance Schools.
Increase parent participation in the schools.
Organize constituencies for public schools.
Housing:
COPS and Metro Alliance leveraged $2 million from the City's general revenue fund to reconstruct and renovate homes.
Provide funding for all families in need of home renovation or reconstruction.
Health Care:
One-fourth of all Texas children and 39 percent of low-income Texas children do not have health insurance. No other state has a greater percentage of its overall population uninsured. There are 600,000 children who are eligible for Medicaid but not enrolled due to state imposed barriers.
Make Medicaid more accessible by removing the assets test, eliminating the face-to-face interview, and establishing continuous 12-month enrollment.
Increase CHIP enrollment to all eligible families.
